Belgian of the week: Tom Van Dyck (the laughing "Dutch" interviewer)

Tom Van Dyck (b. 1972) is a Flemish actor and director. He's been in a slew of films and series, and I'm going to show you a couple of them through the magic of YouTube (or, as Eddy Wally would call it, "new tube").

Here he is playing a thug (he's the guy with the shaved head and the gun) in Matroesjka's, a drama series about human trafficking between Eastern Europe and Belgium. I'll tell you more about the show once I've actually watched it.

(No subtitles, sorry)

One of Tom Van Dyck's most well-known roles was as "Alain Vandam" in Het Eiland, a show which also featured Frank Focketyn. "Alain" became a favourite with the audience for his endearing personality and his outrageous laugh.

Here he is demonstrating the famous laugh at Studio Brussel.

Finally, Van Dyck's most well-known performance was a scene from the comedy show In De Gloria, which became a big hit on the internet. Van Dyck played a talk show host who, being badly prepared for an interview, goes into an embarrassing laughing fit. Taken out of context, the situation is even more awkward than in the original program.

The various incarnations of this video have so far garnered over 10 million views.
